Torah Readings
Every year we read through the entire Torah following the traditional Jewish
annual Torah reading schedule and adding the not-so-traditional Brit haChadashah
(New Testament) readings. Weekly Torah readings are done during Shabbat services and
also at home, i.e. blessed is the one who comes to Shul (Sabbath services)
armed with good questions! Each week's Torah portion is also called a parsha)
which is the hebrew word meaning 'portion'. The annual reading schedule is great
because it helps you to wrestle with the Torah each week, be instructed by it and
receive the blessing that comes with it, i.e. as the LORD said to Joshua in
chapter 1 verse 8:
"This Book of the Torah shall not depart from your mouth, but you
shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all
that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you
will have good success."

May He bless you according to this wonderful promise! |
The annual cycle begins with the Bereshit parsha that is read on the
first shabbat after Simchat Torah and follows
sequentially in the order presented below. However, festivals and special days have
their own readings and sometimes adjacent parshas are combined into one, so
figuring out exactly when to cover what takes a
Torah Calendar.
Here are the regular parshas and their assigned scriptures, followed by the special
readings for special days.
